Dockery Lake Project

Yahoola Outdoors has a Volunteer Service Agreement with the US Forest Service to maintain the Dockery Lakeshore Trail at Dockery Lake Recreation Area 13 miles from the Dahlonega Square. This includes the trail around the lake and the short connector to the parking area. We also check the campground for blowdowns and other needed maintenance.

We are working with the USFS to modify the campground at Dockery Lake to create a group camping area. This is a multi-year project to add facilities such as a shower and pavillions.

We have had regular maintenance trips to the trail to clean drains, cut blowdowns, cut weeds, and maintain the tread. Work trips have also been taken to repair and paint the picnic tables on the west side of the lake, along with picnic grill repair and replacement; repair and painting of the bridge in the picnic area; and repair of the fishing deck and steps at the dam. Future trips will rebuild the retaining wall at the dam for the trail and clearing of trees on the dam and spillway.
